One of the most frustrating symptoms of fibromyalgia is the inability to concentrate or remember due to cognitive dysfunction, this is commonly known as "fibro fog" or "brain fog". On top of managing chronic pain and sleep disturbances you may also have to work your way through the fog.

You may lose your train of thought in the middle of a conversation or not be able to remember what someone just told you a couple minutes ago. While there is no cure for this there are some things you can do to help clear the fog:

Keep your mind active. Crossword puzzles and reading can create stimulation and improve your brain function and memory.

Write things down. Using a day planner, or a list for grocery shopping or things to do can help. Even if you think you will remember something, it's a good idea to write it down just in case.

Seek treatment. Fibromyalgia has many other symptoms including depression and sleep disturbances. If you get treated for these symptoms you may find you are able to concentrate much better.

Remove excess noise. If you are working on a project or anything that requires concentration it may be helpful to find a quiet place to do this. Background noise can create distractions which can remove your attention from the task at hand.

Take it slow. If you take on too much at once you may find yourself overwhelmed and this can cause extra stress or fatigue which will ultimately make your symptoms worse.
